Tareq Hoque, President, CEO, Founder

Prior to founding Firetide, Tareq was president and CEO of Adtech, one of the communications industry's leading providers of innovative network analysis equipment. He guided Adtech to quadruple the company to over 300 employees and $150 million in annual revenues. Adtech became the largest contributor to the Spirent Communications group of companies.

Previously Tareq was an executive in the investment banking groups of Citibank and Credit Suisse First Boston, was an executive director for CIBC Oppenheimer, and a management consultant with Bain & Co.

He is on the MIT Education Council and serves as the Chairman for the Hawaii Technology Trade Association. Tareq is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization, IEEE, ACM, and is a Certified Financial Analyst.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tareq holds bachelors and masters degrees in electrical engineering and computer science and earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.


Ike has held executive engineering and technology positions at Cisco, InfoGear, Apple, Encore, and Digital. As a senior vice president at Apple, Ike had responsibility for MacOS software. He's done original technical work in programming languages and compilers, operating systems, parallel processing, networking, and distributed systems. He has previously been involved in two startups: Encore, which had a successful IPO, and InfoGear, which was sold to Cisco Systems.

He is a member of ACM and IEEE, and is a founding Trustee of the Computer History Museum.

Ike holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.


Keith has over 20 years experience in systems engineering resulting in many commercially successful products. He has served as chief technology advisor for Hewlett-Packard responsible for Wireless Solutions in Education, for HP's award winning OpenView System Management Software, and for HP's security and cryptography VerSecure developments. He served as chief architect for startup Vitalink, responsible for their worldwide satellite and earth-station monitoring system. Keith held key research positions at SRI for 15 years where he served as co-principal investigator on the DARPA Packet Radio program.

Keith holds 15 patents in the areas of Cryptography, Computer Design, and Network Analysis.


Prior to Firetide, Barbara was vice president of marketing for Propel Software, a startup focused on software infrastructure for the Internet. She held several executive management positions at Apple Computer including vice president of PowerBook marketing and director of desktop product marketing. Barbara specializes in corporate marketing, product marketing, and third-party development. She was a co-founder of Ridge Technologies, which was sold to Adaptec, and Propel Software.

Barbara holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Stanford University.


Dan Skilken, VP of Business Development

Dan has over 23 years of experience in design automation and electronics, software, and semiconductor development. Prior to joining Firetide, Dan was President and CEO of C-Level Design, a software company that developed hardware/software co-design technology. Dan was vice president of worldwide marketing at Verisity, a leading supplier of functional verification automation tools. He was also Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Summit Design where he played key roles in developing Summit's corporate identity, product marketing strategy, and revenue growth leading to its initial public offering in October of 1996.

Dan holds an MBA from the University of Santa Clara and received his undergraduate degree in computer science from Indiana University.


Steve Wilson, VP Operations

Steve has over 20 years of executive and senior management experience in high tech companies in both Hawaii and California. Prior to joining Firetide, he was CFO/VP of Finance and Operations for The Voice Works, a software startup company that developed VOIP technology. He also held several executive management positions at Phoenix Technologies including VP of Information Technology, VP of Systems Engineering and Senior Director of Operations and Engineering. Steve was a co-founder of Honolulu-based SoftStyle, Inc., which was later sold to Phoenix Technologies.

Steve holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from the University of Hawaii.


Prior to joining Firetide, Ellary was director of finance for Adtech Inc., a subsidiary of Spirent Communications, a leading provider of network test equipment. Earlier in his career he held the position of controller at Industrial Technology, a supplier of Waste Management Services in Hawaii.

Ellary received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, from San Francisco State University.

DuBose was a founder of Menlo Ventures in 1976, and has been an active director in many of the Firm's portfolio companies. Prior to Menlo Ventures, he worked in communications research for Bell Laboratories, had extensive small business management consulting experience, and did marketing for a small electronics company. At Menlo, DuBose focuses on investments in leading companies in the information technology sector. His recent investments include: Branders, Fireclick, Freightquote, Kinzan, Sequence Design, SURx, VBrick Systems, VNUS Medical Technologies, Vocent Solutions and Xpedion Design Systems. His prior investments include: Asyst Technologies (ASYT); EndoVascular Technologies, acquired by Guidant Corp. (GDT); Frame Technology Corporation, acquired by Adobe Systems (ADBE); Gilead Sciences (GILD); Infoseek Corporation, acquired by the Walt Disney Co. (DIG); LSI Logic Corporation (LSI); Micro Therapeutics (MTIX); Network Equipment Technologies (NWK); and Valid Logic Systems, acquired by Cadence Design Systems (CDN).

DuBose is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (B.S. in Electrical Engineering, M.S. in Electrical Engineering, B.S. in Management Science) and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration (M.B.A.). He has served as a trustee of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and on the M.I.T. visiting committees for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and for Sponsored Research.


Richard G. Grey is the General Partner of HMS Hawaii Management Partners and HMS Investments GP, the General Partners of HMS Investments, HMS Investments II and HMS Hawaii. He co-founded Vidar Corporation, a Silicon Valley manufacturer of telecommunications systems, which was acquired by Continental Telephone Corporation. Dick went on to form Transwitch Associates, a telecommunications consulting firm.

Dick's venture capital experience prior to HMS Hawaii Management includes Island Investors and a founding Special Limited Partner of Vanguard Associates, a Palo Alto venture capital.

He is currently a Director of Pacific Island Resources, Kona Bay Marine, MedDev Corporation and Repeater Technologies. He is a member of IEEE and holds BS and MBA degrees from UCLA and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco.


Ron has spent his career as an entrepreneur actively involved in major industry transitions in the areas of networking and communications, desktop publishing, desktop presentations, and multimedia. He has developed four technology companies from early stage through successful public offerings.

He has extensive global experience in strategic business development and planning, including defining architectures, identifying worldwide market opportunities, and targeting market leverage points. He has also successfully raised hundreds of millions of dollars through private equity and public markets.

He was founder, CEO and chairman of Digital Island, a worldwide IP based network that is focused on helping multinational corporations deploy mission critical applications and distribute Internet content globally.

Ron is currently CEO of RSHF, LLC, an investment management firm, and serves on several Boards of Directors. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
