"The mass deployment of Wi-Fi HotZones has fallen behind, not due to lack of demand, but due to deployment difficulties associated with installation," said Tareq Hoque, president and CEO of Landmark Networks. "Our goal is to remove the complexity and high costs associated with deploying and managing Wi-Fi networks so that service providers can deliver high-performance instant networks that are less expensive, rapidly installed and provide broad coverage."

Hoque was also an executive in the investment banking groups of Citibank and Credit Suisse First Boston, and was an executive director for CIBC Oppenheimer.

"Landmark Networks, with its impressive technology and experienced leadership team, is well-positioned to drive the rapid proliferation of large scale Wi-Fi networks."

The company will use the funds to develop and market its first suite of products.
